LION KING

Last night the Parkway Stake put on "A Night of Broadway".
Each ward chose a musical to perform a portion of. There were performances from Annie, Bye-Bye Birdie, Music Man, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mary Poppins and then our ward did the Lion King.

Katie, Becky and Belle signed up to participate. They spent many of their Tuesday evenings rehearsing with the other members of the ward; learning the songs, the dance steps, etc. Which meant for the next few months these were the songs the girls spent their free times singing.

This Saturday we finally got to go and see all what all the hard work had produced. They performed the songs "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", "Can't Wait to Be King" and "Circle of Life". The girls were dressed like cheetahs while the primary children were dressed like lion cubs. The adults in the ward carried cardboard cut-outs of elephant, giraffe, rhino, lion and warthog heads. It was quite fun to watch.

The girls had a wonderful experience. From going to the rehearsals, to practicing the songs together, all the way to performing in the actual production. Belle had actually been sick for the weeks leading up to the play. She wasn't getting better and we took her to the doctor where we found out that she had a little pneumonia. The doctor put her on a Z-Pack on Thursday and Saturday she was feeling quite a bit better and she began asking if she could perform anyway, which I gave in to. And I am glad I did, it was so much fun for Steve and I to sit in the audience and watch our girls dance and sing.
We have so much talents in our ward...singing, dancing, art...so much fun to see it all on display. Hope that the Stake will do something like this again.

TREASURE HUNTING & CHOIR

Thursday Steve had the day off from work. We don't usually spend a Thursday together, so I gave up a day scrapping with the girls to hang out with my honey. We didn't have anything extremely excited planned, but I seriously just enjoy being around the man.
So we loaded into his truck and went to WalMart to finally replace the crock pot that broke a few months ago. I was so excited. We got a nice 7 quart!!! YEAH. Then I suggested we go to DI (deseret industries) and go "treasure hunting". I got this idea from another woman's blog. She lives in Washington DC and hits the Goodwill ever so often and finds all sorts of neat treasures: nice silver, cool furniture, china, and linens on the CHEAP. Steve and I meandered around the store. I did find some cute jeans for the girls for only $4, but my awesome find was these cool green, square plates. I liked them as soon as I saw them, but then when I turned them over and saw that they were Pottery Barn and only $1 a plate I LOVED them even more. So we walked out of DI with Pottery Barn dinner plates for only $8...my LUCKY day!!! Later that evening we loaded the family in the van and headed over to Barnes and Noble. The elementary school will be hosting 6 different children authors at the school on Friday. Barnes and Noble had an event at their store where the children could purchase the author's books so the children could have them signed at the school the next day. They also had performances by the band and choir and the principal read a story to the children. It was quite and event. Katie and Becky bought 2 books by the author Jessica Day George. They have read her first 2 dragon books and loved them.
Belle purchased a book by the author that would be visiting with the 6th graders and Zack finally spent his 2 Barnes and Noble gift cards purchasing a Pokemon Pokedex and the book Dune. I didn't want to be left out, so I bought a copy of the JD Salinger book Catcher in the Rye to add to our bookshelf on the same day the author passed away at the age of 91.
Before we checked out we listened to the girls perform with the choir. They were the same songs we had heard them sing in November at the choir program, but I still totally enjoyed watching them. It is those little moments that I LIVE for.

PLAYING CATCH UP

We have been pretty busy around here, but thought I should take a little time and fill you in on some of the fun things going on in the Weber's house and our extended family.
My brother, Vito, and his wife, Mabel, had their second child a few weeks ago. A cute little boy that we call Lil' Louie. He was named after my Dad and my brother. They make a cute little family and I am so excited to have the chance to see the little guy and take in all the baby scents and touches.
October 3rd was our "CHOCOLATE SHAKES & ONION RINGS" day. The story goes that on October 3, 1993, Steve and I went for a drive to a diner in San Diego named Kooky's. And there I ordered onion rings and chocolate shakes to take home for dinner. We then sat in my little Toyota Paseo and talked about "us". And at the end of the conversation, he was going back into the dance club we had been in earlier in the evening, and before leaving he said, "Should I tell her (another girl he was casually dating) that I have a girlfriend?" And I said, "Yes, you should tell her you have a girlfriend". And that is how "we" started. And we have celebrated that buy getting shakes and onion rings. The kids love this celebration and now know the story. And neat little tradition that we started.

That same day we drove down to St. George anxious to watch Steve run his 2nd St. George Marathon. Saturday morning started off quite wet. The kids and I left the hotel and got to the finish line early to await Steve's arrival. The whole time we waited it rained. I was not sure when Steve would cross the finish line. He had never run in the rain. But there he was at 3:06:59 crossing that finish line. I was so surprised that I got caught up with screaming, "I LOVE YOU STEVE" and "YOU ROCK" and forgot to focus the camera on him. He was so glad to have me and the kids there cheering him on, but did say that someone else should be in charge of the camera when he is racing. I got so excited last year to see him running in that I forgot to take pictures. I was so proud of what an excellent job he did.
This fall Steve and I took on the task of coaching Katie & Becky's soccer team. Steve actually was mostly the coach. I filled in on the days that he had to work. They were a cute little team and we had a very good time coaching and are even considering coaching in the Spring.

Papa's Hair

Mom and Pop came for a visit last weekend.
After breakfast I cleaned up the dishes and the girlie girls decided that Pop needed a little "something" in his hair. So they got out the box of hair accessories and clipped about 2 dozen of those small butterfly clips to his hair. He was such a good sport to allow them to do that, but then they dared him to wear his hair that way to Target, which we were leaving for in a few minutes.
I thought for sure Pop would nicely say, "NO!!"
But much to my amazement he agreed.
So we all loaded into my van and mom's (mom told pop to drive with me) van. We got to the store and I got out of the van and walked ahead of my dad about 10 feet and mom walked about 10 feet behind as Katie and Becky walked with Pop holding his hand an giggling. He got a few stares as he walked into the store, but I have to admit, I was pretty proud of him...even though I didn't want anyone to know he was with me.
